Obituary

Phyllis Jean Pebley, 87, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026 at Select Specialty Hospital-St. Francis, Wichita. She was born May 17, 1939 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Abe and Emma Bergen Thiessen. She had attended and graduated from Buhler High School in 1958, where she served as homecoming queen her senior year. She spent her childhood at both a farm outside of Buhler and later moving to the town of Buhler when her father, Abe, took a job at the Buhler Phillips 66 filling station. When she was a junior in high school, she began dating Warren and after graduation, they were married in April of 1959 in Buhler at the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church.

For most of her life, she was a homemaker, other than a brief period of employment at Dillions in Hutchinson and running Twin Oaks Boys Home with her husband Warren.

Phyllis was the epitome of 1 Timothy 6:6 “Godliness with contentment is a great gain”.

She didn’t have a need for many hobbies and while she enjoyed her daily scripture and devotions, watching KU basketball and taking RV trips with the family to Table Rock Lake, her greatest joy in life was her faith and her family. She was a faithful member of Union Valley Bible Church her entire adult life and served the body there in many ways, including leading Sunday School classes for a time. She loved nothing more than to gather together the whole family over a home cooked meal of roast and potatoes or Verenika. More than anything her life was marked by Love, a deep love for the Lord and love for her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Warren, Hutchinson; children, Kimberly Pebley (Troy Kitchener), Inman and Matthew (Drew) Sell, Wichita; siblings, Bonnie (Gary) Danner, Clearwater, Helen (Jim) Lewis, Buhler, and Annie Yoder, Yoder; grandchildren, Kyle (Tanisha) Stockham, Wichita, Korina (Josh) Wilson, Gypsum, and Shaylin Ramirez, Buhler; and great grandchildren, Ava, Ellamae, Brody, Kinder, Jaxton, Thiessen, Mayven, Idelette, Miriam, Winsley, and Wiley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Emma Thiessen, a brother in law, Norman Yoder, and a niece, Lana Dale.

Cremation is planned. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at the family farm, 196 First Ave, Inman, KS 67546. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Union Valley Bible Church. To leave a condolence for the family, visit: www.inmanfh.com.
