In Loving Memory of Lynn Dean Johnson (aka, “Pa”)
March 27, 1943--June 2, 2025
Lynn Dean Johnson, 82, of Inman, KS passed away peacefully on Monday June 2, 2025 after a 7 month struggle from a brain bleed and other medical issues, surrounded by his loving family.
Lynn was born in Nowata, OK on March 27th ,1943 to Dick and Gladys (Stanbaugh) Johnson. Lynn grew up in Macksville, KS and attended school there, after which he was drafted into the Army. He served 2 years. A proud veteran, Lynn served his country working as a mail clerk, keeping the letters flowing. After serving 2 years he moved to Hutchinson, KS and went to work for Cessna/General Dynamics/Eaton Corporation for 42 years. He was a respected employee for his strong work ethic and made many lifelong friends.
Lynn met his future wife on main street in Hutchinson, KS. He married Ilene Joyce Plett on April 12th, 1968. They shared 57 years together. In this union, they built a wonderful family raising 3 children Eric, Darren, and Heidi. Later delighting in the addition of 3 more in-law kids they called their own, Jeri, Andrea, and Joseph.
Adding to their family of 8 were 6 grandchildren, Derick, Zaden, Sadie, Alyssa, Cora and Drake.
Lynn was an avid sports fan. He watched and cheered for countless football, volleyball, basketball, cheer, soccer, baseball and the occasional motocross races, giving added advice after each game. Whether coaching T-ball for 12 years with his friend, Wayne Neufeld, or sitting in the bleachers with a smile on his face, he was his family’s biggest fan!
Lynn had a knack for tinkering--especially in the garage, where he could often be found elbow deep in a go cart engine (he rebuilt 3—1 for each child) or a project only he could explain. He had a keen eye for collecting pennies and keener ear listening to one of his thousands of records. His stories often humorous, always vivid, of childhood shenanigans and mischief-making were legendary among his grandchildren, who never tired of hearing them. But, Ilene kept telling him they’ve heard that story a thousand times, that didn’t matter he’d tell it again anyway.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and great stories that will live in the lives of all that knew him.
Preceding him in death were his parents Dick and Gladys Johnson.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Ilene Johnson; their children Eric (Jeri) Johnson, Darren (Andrea) Johnson, and Heidi (Joseph) Law; his 6 grandchildren, Derick Johnson, Zaden Johnson, Sadie Law, Alyssa Johnson, Cora Johnson, and Drake Law all of Inman, KS; his brothers, Loren (Maryann) Johnson of Hutchinson, KS, Dave Johnson of Mesquite, TX; and his so-called sister Dixie (Cliff) Kruszynski of Salina, KS.
