Karen S. Sweeden, 69, passed away at her home in Hutchinson on December 27, 2022 with her family by her side.  She was born August 27, 1953, in Kinsley, the daughter of David D. and Rosezetta Foss Hathaway.  She was a graduate of Nickerson High School.
Karen was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, where she was actively involved.  She ran Vacation Bible School, the church’s clothing ministry, and enjoyed the mission trip to New Mexico.
She enjoyed doing crafts and all her “adopted kids.”

She married Gerald R. Sweeden on September 23, 1973, in Hutchinson.  He survives.

Additional survivors include her daughters, DawnEtta (John) Ummel, Hutchinson and Shawna Williams, Hutchinson; a brother, Don (Carolyn Claypool) Hathaway, Stafford; 2 sisters, LeEtta (Nathan) Mourn, Hutchinson and Polly (Doug) Withroder, Arlington; and 3 grandchildren, Jaycee Sweeden, Brandon Ummel, and Katie Ummel.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Per her wishes cremation has taken place.  Celebration of life services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023 at Riverside Baptist Church, Hutchinson.  A private family burial will take place at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Council of Reno County, in care of Inman Funeral Home.  To leave a condolence for the family, visit:  www.inmanfh.com.
