John David Martens

John David Martens, 92, passed away February 4, 2023, at Pleasant View Home, Inman.  He was born June 29, 1930, in rural McPherson County, the son of John H. and Sara A. Neufeldt Martens.  He was a graduate of Inman High School.  On April 29, 1951, he married Florence Pauls at the Hoffnungsau Church, rural Inman.  The two had been married over 71 years before John’s death. 
 
John retired from Dillon’s in 1995 after working for Dillon’s in the engineering and architecture department for 16 years.  He had also worked for Ewing Construction for many years.  He was a member of Inman Mennonite Church.  He enjoyed woodworking, especially making birdhouses and clocks out of barnwood.  He would enjoy watching the purple martins while on his deck drinking Dr. Pepper. 

Survivors include sons Jim and wife Lorra and Jerry and wife Ramona, all of Inman; grandchildren, Brandi and Phil Huff, McPherson, Emily Oglesby, Shelburne, VM, Bryce A.J. and Stephanie Martens, Wichita, Amanda and John Medbery, Moundridge, and Adam and Sami Martens, Inman; 5 great grandchildren, Austin, Courtney, Devin, Lily, and Ruby; and one great great granddaughter, Maci.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Stella Thiessen and Rosella Pauls; and a daughter in law, Judy Rohrer Martens.

Visitation with the family present will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Inman Mennonite Church.  The casket will remain closed.  Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 10:00 AM at North Inman Cemetery.  Memorial services will follow at 11:00 at Inman Mennonite Church.  Services will be live streamed on Inman Funeral Home’s Facebook page.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Open Door Pregnancy Center, MCC, or Inman Mennonite Church, all in care of Inman Funeral Home.  To leave a condolence for the family, visit:  www.inmanfh.com.
