On February 16th, 1934, the world joyfully welcomed Carol Ruth Tannahill, and on April 1, 2026 at the ripe young age of 92, she was joyfully welcomed into the arms of her Savior in her heavenly home.
Carol was born and raised by her loving parents, Cecil and Sophia, near Yates Center, Kansas. There she enjoyed the exciting life of a Kansas farm girl, riding the horse or buggy to school, building a combine, shed, chicken house, garage, and granary with her dad, and helping her mom with the laundry and cleaning.
Her freshman year of high school, she met the man that was to become her husband, Donald Peterson. Following high school, she attended Baker University in Baldwin City before transferring to Kansas State University in Manhattan, where she majored in Home Economics: Textiles and Clothing. While there, on June 20th of 1954, the high school sweethearts were wed.
After graduation, the young couple moved to Osborne, where they were blessed with the birth of their first child, Tanna, in 1956. A few years later, in 1959, they were blessed with another daughter, Beth, while they lived in Mankato. They relocated to Stafford County, to St. John in 1961, and there welcomed the birth of their son, Lynn, in 1963. Then they moved to a beautiful home in Macksville in 1971.
Together for over 60 years, Don and Carol built a beautiful and full life. They lacked not for friendship, and poured into their family, raising them to love the Lord. Over the years, the kids were active in church, 4-H, sports, and trips.
Then the kids were all wed and came the abundant blessings of 9 grandchildren. The blessings have only multiplied over those years as the great-grandchildren came, with the current count coming in at 22. Don and Carol’s legacy of love has been poured into each and every one of them.
In 2013, Don and Carol relocated to Hutchinson, where Don went home to be with the Lord in 2016. In the years since that loss, Carol continued to live a vibrant life, literally lighting up the room with her infectious smile and laugh, so full was she with the joy of Jesus.
Carol was a wonderful wife, loving mother and grandmother, hospitable homemaker, and an exceptionally good cook. She was continuously dependent on Christ through good times and bad, crediting Him with her making it this far. Even when her health had recently taken a turn, it was humbling to hear her continually thanking God her Father for His faithfulness to her. She loved much and was loved much.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Don, her parents, Cecil and Sophia Tannahill, her mother-in-law, Ruth Peterson, and her father and mother-in-law, Keith and Betty Peterson.
She is survived by her children: Tanna Faulkner (Tom), Beth Resa (Dave), Lynn Peterson (Jan); grandchildren: Whitney Hamilton (Jared), Sean Faulkner (Heather), Jessica Geist (Ljay), Braden Irvin (Stacy), Jaron Irvin (Teryn), Machella Love (Devin), Hunter Peterson (Emily), Dakota Woods (Austin), and Kallie McCue (Brett): and great-grandchildren: Julianna, Jadei, William, and Weston Hamilton; Hampton, Hezekiah, Henley, and Hawkston Faulkner; Kaelynn Flax, Sophia Morton, Porter and Hillery Geist; Rylan and Alayna Irvin; Izaiah, Josiah, and Matthias Irvin; Eliza, Ezra, and Enzley Love; Kaycee, Elliott, Tate, and Reverie Peterson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Abby Hopkins (Frank), sister-in-law Sue Peters (Scott), nephew Marshall Hopkins (Kelsi) and nephew Frank Hopkins (Kimberly).
